The elephants in the room...

  OK, so I have survived the surgery, but there are still many elephants in the room that are created as a result of the survery to remove the prostate.  These were all discussed at some point by medical staff, but with all the overwhelming emoutions and feelings, you may not have paid attention and now they are affecting your lifestyle! Urinary incontinance.  This is usually noticed as soon as they remove the cathetor.  In fact, you are told to bring pads, or provided a pad to wear to get yourself home.  I remember  having my son take me to the appointment.  I later shared the experience and the strong potential for leakage according to all the information I read.  He was a little upset as I had taken an extra bed pad for the seat, just in case...  He was not happy that the leakage could happen in his new car!  The good news is that with excercise, this can typically be overcome, just needs patience! September, Do You Remember...

 Since we are part of the better age...and you are reading this because of prostate cancer, this title should be somewhat familiar. That's right.  We are in September and that means Prostate Cancer Aswareness Month.  This is the month to remind ANYONE with a prostate to get tested now or as they age (in the case of children).  I made it very clear to my sons that we now have this curse in our family and they will need to be on top of it to catch it early!  This cancer is the second leading death of men and the second most common cancer (behind breast cancer).  If caught early, there is nearly 100% chance of long term survival.  You need to spread the word. Now that we are bringing awareness to others, we need to focus on healing.  The healing is the hardest part of this damn process.  It is an emotional roller coaster of mediocre highs and somethimes extremely low lows.  The stress that it brings to not only myself, but to those that I ...
